The Wine Maker

Mike Garland has made our wines since our first vintage in 2004. Originally starting out on his own (Garlands Wines) he later became the chief winemaker at Mount Shadforth Contract Crush in Denmark. Mike now makes wines for many producers including Rockcliffe and Singlefile. Other wine makers have also contributed to the making of Hawker Ridge's wines including Andrew Vesey and Lucy Maddox.

FROM DEEP IN THE CELLAR.....

2004 RIESLING: A vintage dry Riesling with good acid and citrus lime flavours. Improves each year with cellaring!

2005 RIESLING: A vintage semi-dry Riesling that has improved remarkably with age. Intense lime and citrus aromatic with a combination of fruit sweetness on the front and mid palate with a crisp finish.

2005 SHIRAZ: Intense plum and berry flavours. A dog bolter of a wine. Limited bottles left.

2013 SHIRAZ: an outstanding Kendenup Estate wine, this Shiraz has flavours of red and blue fruit, with a peppery note. It has good length in the palate with a nice balance and elegance, with depth and a suggestion of plushness. Matured in French oak for 14 months before bottling it has good longevity.

2016 SHIRAZ: This cool climate Shiraz has all the spice and pepper of typical Mount Barker Shiraz with the intense berry flavours of a Hawker Ridge classic.

2018 RIESLING: A vintage which displays typical Great Southern Riesling characters with intense lime sherbet aromatics with floral overtones. The citrus flavour continues onto the palate,  and is carried by the natural acidity and tightly wound structure of the wine.

NEW RELEASES

2021 RIESLING: Very pale straw colour, intense rose petal, floral aromatics with just a sprinkling of lemon sherbet and orange blossom. The palate is refined with a limey, citrus core and ample fruit weight to carry the natural acidity through to a long clean finish.

2018 SHIRAZ: Another outstanding Kendenup Shiraz with aromas of anise, all-spice and a hint of white pepper, the flavours continue with plum and blue fruits abundant on the pallet.
